Founded in 1967 as Northwest College of Medical Assistants and Dental Assistants, the institution underwent multiple ownership changes: purchased by Bryman Schools in 1969, acquired by Education Corporation of America in 1983 (renamed Western Career College), and consolidated with Apollo College under U.S. Education Corporation in 2003. DeVry Inc. acquired the institution in 2008 and rebranded it as Carrington College in 2010. Adtalem Global Education sold Carrington to San Joaquin Valley College in 2018. In 2025, Carrington and SJVC realigned programs, with Carrington assuming all nursing and allied healthcare training.
