Canadian Forces College is a Toronto-based Canadian military college that develops joint warfighters and national security leaders.
The Canadian Forces College (CFC) is located at 215 Yonge Boulevard in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Its mission is to develop joint warfighters and national security leaders through rigorous academics, research, and engagement for command and staff appointments at the operational and strategic level, to serve the Government of Canada. The College describes itself as recognized internationally as a world-class defence college, operating at the leading edge of learning. It is described as the cornerstone in the development of the Canadian Forces senior officer cadre.
The College was created as the Royal Canadian Air Force War Staff College in 1943. It has undergone several stages of reorganization that reflect the evolution of the professional development of military officers. The CFC is now part of the re-focused Canadian Defence Academy (CDA), an education group composed of the Royal Military College of Canada, the Royal Military College Saint-Jean, and the CFC.
The College offers the Joint Command and Staff Programme, including a distance learning option, the National Security Programme, the Joint Staff Operations Programme, and the Canadian Security Studies Programme. Its research centres include the Centre for National Security Studies and the Centre for Institutional Analysis of Armed Forces. The College publishes CFC Papers and Strathrobyn Papers.
The College provides access to Canadian Armed Forces Virtual Library (CAFVL) databases. The SOMNIA news publication, which was published daily for nearly 30 years, is no longer being updated.
