Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis focuses exclusively on training psychoanalysts in modern psychoanalysis. The institution awards only graduate degrees and is the only regionally accredited school of psychoanalytic studies in the United States to grant graduate degrees. Since receiving accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in 1995, the school has opened psychoanalytic study to any qualified and engaged student regardless of prior coursework.

This regional accreditation, first granted in 1995, distinguishes BGSP as the sole regionally accredited psychoanalytic graduate institution in the United States.
