BENGAL ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE UNIVERSITY, SHIBPUR is a public institution in Howrah, established in 1856. Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur (now Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur — IIEST Shibpur) is one of the oldest technical institutions in Asia, located in Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal. It was originally established in 1856 and was converted into a deemed university in 2004. In 2014, the Government of India declared it an Institute of National Importance, renaming it IIEST Shibpur.
