BSK offers graduate theological education through its Master of Divinity (75-hour professional degree) and Master of Arts in Ministry Studies (36-hour degree). Optional concentrations include Black Church Studies, Pastoral Care, Chaplaincy, and Rural Ministry. The seminary also provides graduate certificates in Pastoral Care, Black Church Studies, Rural Ministry, and Exploring Ministry, as well as audit options and Flourish Lifelong Learning courses. All coursework is delivered fully online with many courses offered in the evenings to accommodate working students.
BSK is committed to theological formation of those called by God regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or age. The seminary emphasizes racial justice, women in ministry, and excellence in pastoral care. The institution affirms the presence and work of the Spirit in all persons called by God and seeks to form daring faith leaders for a changing world.
M.Div. admission requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a minimum 2.5 GPA; strong candidates without a degree or with lower GPA may be admitted provisionally. Applicants must submit official transcripts, spiritual and ministerial autobiographies (800–1200 words each), three reference forms, and may be interviewed. Certificate and audit programs have less stringent requirements. BSK emphasizes affordability, with over 80% of graduates graduating debt-free, and accessibility through online delivery and evening scheduling.
As of July 2016, 86% of BSK graduates serve in ministry-related vocations, primarily as pastors in local congregations, chaplains, and pastoral counselors. Five of every seven graduates are currently employed in vocational ministry. The seminary maintains strong connections with regional churches and agencies to facilitate student placements and career development.
