History
The institution began in 1858 as a modest school called the 'Bengaluru High School' with five students, petitioned for by leading citizens of the city. In 1875 it was renamed 'Central College' when it became a First-Grade College. In 1916 the University of Mysore was established with Central College as one of two leading colleges under its aegis.
