Bangabasi Evening College is located at 19 Rajkumar Chakraborty Sarani (Scott Lane), Kolkata 700 009, West Bengal, India, in the vicinity of Sealdah Station. The college is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. Its name derives from the patriotic newspaper Bangabasi.
History
The evening section was founded in 1940 by Principal Prasanta Kumar Bose to teach Commerce to employed students. The college was established as a separate institution in 1965, coming into separate existence on 11 April 1965, as an offshoot of Bangabasi College. The institution was founded by Acharya Girish Chandra Bose, founder of Bangabasi College.
Academics
The college offers courses from almost all the major streams. Its primary mission is disseminating knowledge in society through a holistic and futuristic model of education. The college is dedicated to imparting a value-based, liberal, modern and self-reliant education. Its main aim has been to provide educational opportunities to poor, underprivileged and in-service students, many of whom are first-generation learners.
