History
The college was started in July 1965 by founder Thiru. N.T.S. Arumugam Pillai, who hailed from Tiruppattur and had migrated to Malaysia to earn his fortune. It was accorded First Grade College status in the year of its inception, offering PUC and Degree courses. The Malaysian King honored the founder with the title AMN in recognition of his generosity and philanthropy.
Academics
The college is an affiliated college and does not frame its own curricula. Under the Choice Based Credit System, Value education, Environmental studies and Computer aided courses are part of the syllabus. The college offers 32 UG/PG courses. Its mission is to produce disciplined, competent, socially committed and morally upright intellectuals through high quality education and research. Admission is merit-based.

The campus has 75 classrooms and 105 experienced staff. Facilities include an indoor stadium, an outdoor stadium, the Vasantha Arangam auditorium, a seminar hall, a computer center, laboratories, a canteen, a central library, a library reprographic section, and a Library Network Resource Centre.

The college is accredited with a B grade in the second cycle and a B+ in the third cycle of NAAC. It is also recognised under UGC sections 2(f) and 12(B). The college's president, Thiru. N. Vasantharajan, received the Dato award from the Malaysian Government.
