Apollos University was founded in August 2004 as a non-profit institution but transitioned to a for-profit corporation in May 2005. Originally headquartered in Huntington Beach, California, the university relocated to Great Falls, Montana on September 30, 2016, where it was approved as a private institution by the State of Montana. The university enrolled its first student in September 2005 and held its first graduation ceremony in July 2007. In December 2024, the university closed, with Madison Education Group assuming responsibility for records retention and administration of academic records for alumni.
Apollos University was accredited by the Distance Education Accreditation Commission (DEAC), formerly known as the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). The university applied for accreditation in 2010 and received accreditation status in January 2012. DEAC renewed the university's accreditation in 2020.
