About

Alberta College of Massage Therapy (ACMT) is part of the Health and Wellness Colleges of Canada (HWCC) and was founded in 2001. It is a Private Career College licensed through the Province of Alberta's Innovation and Advanced Education Program. Its mission is to passionately educate Canada's next generation of health care professionals. The main address is Suite #101, 9925 109th Street, Edmonton, AB.

History

The first campus was opened in Grande Prairie under the original name Prairie Massage Training, by Founding Principal Ed Mooney. In early 2015, Ed retired and passed the business along to new owners. After the new owners took over, the school was renamed Alberta College of Massage Therapy, a name considered more accurate for the services provided by administration and faculty. Dedicated campuses were later established in Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Lloydminster, Grande Prairie, and Fort McMurray.

Academics

The program combines home study, in-class tutorials, and hands-on clinic experience. Students study from home using ACMT's online Learning Management System, with instructors available by email to answer questions. Practical exams are completed in person on scheduled Friday sessions. The Spa Massage Practitioner program is an 18-month program. Graduates of the Massage Therapy Diploma become Registered Massage Therapists upon joining an association.

Campus & Facilities

Programs are offered at 8 campuses in Calgary South, Edmonton Southside, Edmonton Downtown, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Lloydminster, and Red Deer. Student Clinics are spaces where ACMT students can practice on members of the public under the supervision of a Registered Massage Therapist. The Southside campus has a student lounge, resource library, kitchen, and treatment rooms. The campus library provides textbooks, case studies, and articles, and free parking is available at the 99th Street location.

Admissions

Standard admission requires a high school diploma or transcript. A free entrance exam is available for applicants without confirmed high school completion. International student admission is also available.
