A defunct Christian Church college in Illinois that operated from 1853 to 1888.
Abingdon College was founded in 1853 and chartered by Illinois in 1855. The institution faced significant challenges between 1875 and 1877 when internal disputes effectively closed it. F. M. Bruner purchased the college in 1880, but in 1885 it merged with Eureka College, another Christian Church institution. The Abingdon campus officially closed in 1888. After closure, the property changed hands several times, eventually being used by Hedding College as a music and normal school campus.
The college maintained chapters of Phi Sigma and Delta Tau Delta fraternities, indicating an active social life typical of 19th-century American colleges.
