About
Abhayapuri College is located in the heart of Abhayapuri Town, the headquarters of North Salmara Sub-division, in Bongaigaon district, Assam. The college is a public institution, provincialised in 2006, and is affiliated to Gauhati University. Its postal address is P.O. Abhayapuri, Dist. Bongaigaon, Assam, PIN 783384.
History
The college came into existence on 13 August 1955 through the efforts of local luminaries under the leadership of Late Govinda Chandra Dev Sarma. It started as a single faculty Arts College affiliated to the University of Gauhati and came under the Deficit Grants-in-Aid system in 1962. The Science stream was opened in 1979, and the name Abhayapuri honours Ranee Abhayeswari, the Queen of the Bijni Raj Estate.
Academics
The college has departments in Arts, Science, Vocational and PGDCA. Its mission is to impart holistic and progressive education up to postgraduate level in both formal and distance learning modes. Since 2015-16, it has offered NSQF-level vocational UG courses (B.Voc.) in Information Technology and Travel and Tourism Management under the UGC Scheme.

Abhayapuri is a small town surrounded by isolated hillocks, known for its scenic beauty and calm, clean environment. Campus facilities include the Krishna Goswami Central Library with Wi-Fi and internet access, digital classrooms, a conference hall, science and computer laboratories, a canteen, and boys' and women's hostels with a dining hall and drinking and running water.
Recognition
The college was accredited by NAAC with a B grade in its first cycle in 2004, its Golden Jubilee year. In 2023, during the third cycle of NAAC assessment, it achieved a B++ grade with a CGPA of 2.It is ISO 9001:2015 certified and was awarded the Assam State NSS Award.
