The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the points system IRCC uses to rank Express Entry profiles. Points are awarded for age, education, language, work experience and other factors.
The maximum CRS score is 1,200 points. A provincial or territorial nomination alone adds 600 of them.
Each IELTS General Training band for reading, writing, listening and speaking is matched to a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level using IRCC conversion tables. For example, reading 6.0, writing 6.0, listening 6.0 and speaking 6.0 is CLB 7, and listening 8.0 with 7.0 in the other abilities is CLB 9.
IRCC is changing how points are awarded for Canadian work experience and job offers on 3 November 2026. This estimate uses the rules published on 16 October 2026.
